Aerzen GmbH advertizes ties to GMI Projects Hamburg GmbH, a U.S. Tresury Department sanction-designated entity. According to a Treasury Department press release from January 5 2021, "GMI Projects Hamburg GmbH … and U.K.-based GMI Projects Ltd. are being designated for being owned or controlled by MIDHCO [Middle East Mines and Mineral Industries Development Holding Company].” Tehran-based MIDHCO, also sanctioned on January 5, is a critical part of Iran’s sanctioned metals and mining industry, with a “collective production capacity of over 19 million tons of steel, iron, and copper products.”
