UANI Applauds Decision to Terminate Sanctions Waiver for Fordow Nuclear Facility

(New York, N.Y.) – United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) Chairman Senator Joseph I. Lieberman and CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace released the following statement in response to U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s decision to terminate the sanctions waiver for Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“We applaud the Trump administration's cancellation of the waiver for the Fordow nuclear facility under the JCPOA. All other nuclear waivers under the agreement should also be phased out. Iran's failure to transform the Fordow site into a research center and its recent decision to resume nuclear enrichment there made this decision thoroughly justified. It is time for the international community to recognize that the JCPOA is too broken to succeed and join the U.S. in its maximum pressure campaign.

“There is also much more work to be done, including sanctioning Iran-backed Shiite militias in Iraq, Hezbollah’s allies in Lebanon, and using the U.S. presidency of the U.N. Security Council that begins next month to invoke the snapback provision under Security Council Resolution 2231. As protests in Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon continue, the Iranian regime should realize a high price for its destabilizing aggression.”
