UANI Applauds U.S. Congressional Leaders for Introducing New Iran Sanctions Bill, Calls for Quick Passage

New Sanctions Introduced by Congressmen Royce and Engel Would Pressure Iranian Regime

New York, NY - On Wednesday, United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) President, Ambassador Kristen Silverberg, issued the following statement regarding new Iran sanctions being introduced in the U.S. House by Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Rep. Ed Royce and Ranking Member Rep. Eliot Engel:

We strongly support this legislation, and we applaud Chairman Royce and Ranking Member Engel for introducing it. If passed, this bill would put substantially more pressure on nations that continue to buy Iranian crude, entities that are still doing business in Iran, and individuals who are enabling the Iranian regime's human rights violations.

We urge U.S. lawmakers to quickly pass this legislation without weakening it in any way, and for President Obama to sign it into law. As Iran's nuclear weapons program continues to advance, it is imperative that the U.S. aggressively employs all available leverage to economically pressure the Iranian regime.

UANI has called for a full economic blockade on Iran, to force companies to choose between doing business in Iran, or doing business in the U.S. In May 2012 testimony to the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, UANI CEO, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, stated that: "The time for half-measures and exceptions is over. We must commit ourselves to imposing a complete economic blockade."
