Statement by UANI President, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, on the UN Security Council's Passage of Sanctions Against Iran

New York, NY United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) today applauded the UN Security Council for taking an important step in passing a fourth round of sanctions against Iran.

UANI President, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, supported this move, and called for further action:

In passing a fourth round of sanctions, the United Nations Security Council has sent a clear message to Iran: the cost of pursuing an illegal nuclear weapons program is international economic isolation.  While this is a clear message and an important symbol of the international community's opposition to Iran's current policy, it will not be sufficient to halt Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons.  Further action is required in the form of even more meaningful sanctions.  We call on the U.S. Congress to immediately pass comprehensive sanctions legislation aimed at Iran's oil industry.  We call on the U.S. Government to debar companies that do business in Iran, such as Honeywell, from contracting with the U.S. Government.  We call on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to take definitive action to require publicly-traded companies to disclose the full extent of their business in Iran.  These measures will serve as more than a symbol of the international community's distrust of Iran's actions and intentions.  They will effectively isolate Iran to the point where the regime must decide between continuing to enrich uranium and engaging in international trade.
