UANI Applauds Sanctions On IRGC Operatives Involved In Assassination Attempts

U.S. Sanctions Are Necessary, But Not Sufficient. Restoring Deterrence Is Critical.

(New York, N.Y.) — United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace released the following statement today after the U.S. Department of Treasury designated members and affiliates of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its Quds Force for their involvement in assassination attempts against civilians and former U.S. government officials including UANI Advisory Board member Ambassador John R. Bolton.  

“We commend the Biden Administration and the Treasury Department for appropriately designating IRGC and Quds Force officials who have been engaged in terrorist plots against former U.S. government officials, dual U.S. and Iranian nationals, Iranian dissidents, journalists and activists, especially those who have been speaking out and exposing the regime's brutality. As the Islamic Republic steps up its attacks against critics at home and abroad, the U.S. must utilize every tool available to isolate and punish the regime on the global stage.  

“Today’s actions are an important step in the Biden Administration’s pledge to levy ‘severe consequences’ against Iran for endangering Americans at home and abroad. Yet, these actions are not enough. The U.S. must have an effective strategy of deterrence against Iran – or any hostile foreign power – from planning to kidnap, kill and torture American citizens, particularly on U.S. soil. The fundamental role of the government is to protect its citizens. The U.S. must make clear that such continued planning by Iran constitutes an act of war and a military response will result.”
