UANI Applauds U.S. Sanctions On Iranian Tanker Captains
Far-Reaching Implications Raise Costs To Regime For Malign Behavior
(New York, N.Y.) – United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) Chairman Senator Joseph I. Lieberman and CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace released the following joint statement today upon news that the U.S. Department of the Treasury has imposed sanctions on five Iranian tanker captains who delivered 1.5 million barrels of Iranian gasoline and related components to the Maduro regime in Venezuela.
“UANI applauds the Trump administration for its continued focus and resolve in advancing its maximum pressure campaign. Recently, Iran has supplied the Maduro regime with fuel and technical assistance in the latest advancement of an illicit strategic relationship stretching back more than a decade. The Trump administration’s decision to sanction the five tanker captains responsible for delivering gasoline to the Maduro regime will make Iranian expansionism more costly, and reduce the likelihood of arms or other military assets being transferred to the Maduro regime in the future. Today’s announcement also sends an unequivocal message to any person or business interested in supporting the rogue regimes in Iran and Venezuela that they should first consider the significant financial and reputational risk of doing so.”
