UANI Applauds U.S. Senate for Sanctioning Iran's Central Bank

New York, NY - On Friday, United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) President, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Senate's unanimously-passed amendment to sanction Iran's Bank Markazi:

We applaud the U.S. Senate for taking unanimous action to sanction Iran's Central Bank, which UANI has called for many times. These sanctions, if enacted into law, would financially cut off the Iranian regime from the rest of the world, and place extreme pressure on Iran's economy.

While sanctioning Bank Markazi is a strong step, it is completely justified and timely given Iran's ongoing pursuit of nuclear weapons, sponsorship of terrorists, its recently-foiled plot to launch an attack on U.S. soil, and the regime's blatant disregard for international law. We call on the U.S. House of Representatives to also pass this amendment, and for President Obama to respect the bipartisan consensus of Congress and sign it into law.

UANI has called for sanctions against Iran's Central Bank numerous times, including on October 11, 2011, following the U.S. government's disruption of Iran's plot to attack U.S. soil.
