Gallup Poll Demonstrates Bipartisan Concern Over Iran’s Nuclear Program

(New York, N.Y.) — United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) Chairman Senator Joseph I. Lieberman and CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace released the following joint statement today after Gallup published its annual World Affairs survey. Of those surveyed, an overwhelming 75 percent of Americans consider the development of nuclear weapons by Iran to be a critical threat to U.S. vital interests in the next decade — including 83 percent of Republicans and 68 percent of Democrats.

“The Gallup poll results clearly demonstrate that Americans are extremely concerned about the dangers of the Iranian regime’s nuclear program and capabilities. This sentiment validates our belief that Iran’s malign behavior violates the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), specifically the acceleration of its nuclear weapons program, which is a true bipartisan concern for Americans.

“The poll results are a clarion call from the American people to the Biden Administration to work across party lines to restore the bipartisan approach to Iran policy which existed before the development of the JCPOA. We urge the White House to address Iran’s nuclear ambitions in a manner that unifies the American people and recognizes the widespread consensus that Iran is a crucial threat today — and will be in the future — until its aggression is deterred.”

In January, in an op-ed featured in NBC News’ THINK, Senator Lieberman and Ambassador Wallace called upon the Biden Administration to develop U.S. policy along bipartisan lines and in consideration of current political, diplomatic, and geostrategic realities as well as the regime’s behavior in the years following the JCPOA. In February, UANI published an open letter to the Biden Administration in the New York Times offering a path forward to address the Iranian threat in a bipartisan manner alongside other members of the P5+1 as well as allies and partners in the Middle East.
