Iranian Regime Targets Israel, Arab States During Quds Day Protest

(New York, N.Y.) – Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran held its annual anti-Zionist Quds Day (“Jerusalem Day”) protest. Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei used Quds Day to call Israel a “terrorist base” amid burning U.S. and Israeli flags. Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif declared Israel “an apartheid regime.”

Khamenei also condemned “weak Arab governments” that have made peace and normalized relations with Israel. Over the last year, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan have done so under the rubric of the Abraham Accords, joining with Jordan and Egypt as states that enjoy relationships with Israel. Those nations have a combined population more than twice as large as Iran’s.

United Against Nuclear Iran’s (UANI) resource, Iran’s Anti-Israel Ideology: Quds Day, outlines the history of Quds Day in Iran and underscores Iran’s historical propagation of antisemitic bigotry and hateful rhetoric towards Israel. A key part of its ideological expansion, Iran has exported Quds Day internationally over the years to more than 80 countries. UANI’s report, How Iran Exports Its Ideology, tracks this global campaign.
