The Threat From Hezbollah In The War Between Israel And Hamas

(New York, N.Y.) — In his first speech since Hamas attacked Israel from Gaza, Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary General of Hezbollah, spoke publicly in a widely-televised address two weeks ago about his Iran-backed terrorist group’s escalation of cross-border attacks against Israel from Lebanon. While Nasrallah denied Hezbollah’s involvement in planning the attack on Israel, he effusively praised Hamas and senior Hezbollah officials who have confirmed meetings in Beiruit with Hamas and senior Iranian regime leaders in the weeks prior to October 7. He also warned that the future held the “realistic” possibility for open conflict, pledging that “all options are open on the Lebanese front. All options are on the table, and we are ready for all possibilities.”

Following Nasrallah’s speech, Hezbollah’s violent attacks against Israel have intensified. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), communities in northern Israel are facing frequent attacks originating in southern Lebanon that have resulted in dozens of casualties between military personnel and civilians. In total, Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for more than 20 attacks against Israel over the past month. Despite these provocations, Israel has abided by U.S. requests for restraint.

United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) encourages the U.S. to continue to seize opportunities to break down Hezbollah’s infrastructure in Lebanon, demand strict conditions for aid to the country, and prevent the use of aid to prop up terror infrastructure leveraged against Israel. UANI’s resources, including Hezbollah.org and its Suggested Changes to U.S. Lebanon Policy, provide background on the terrorist organization and a new policy framework.
