UANI Applauds Hong Kong's AsiaSat for Ending Satellite Services to IRIB, Ceasing Broadcasts of Iranian Regime Programming

New York, NY - On Thursday, United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) applauded Hong Kong's Asia Satellite Telecommunications Co. Ltd. (AsiaSat) for ending its broadcasting of Iranian regime programming.

In a November 9, 2012 letter to AsiaSat, UANI CEO, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, called on AsiaSat to "end all business activities in Iran and specifically cease the broadcast of all Iranian regime transmissions via the AsiaSat 3S and AsiaSat 5 satellites, including that of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), the Islamic Republic of Iran News Network (IRINN) and their affiliates such as Press TV."

Based on confidential discussions, UANI can reveal that beginning today, November 15, AsiaSat has terminated its satellite services to IRIB and will no longer maintain business in Iran.

Said Ambassador Wallace:

AsiaSat has terminated its services to IRIB, beginning today, and will no longer engage in any business in Iran. We applaud AsiaSat for ending its broadcast of Iranian regime programming. We call on all other media entities worldwide to stop broadcasting IRIB programming and other regime propaganda.

UANI recently applauded Canada's Telesat, British telecommunications company Arqiva, and European satellite provider Eutelsat for ceasing their broadcasting of regime programming. As part of its "Tech and Telecom Campaign," UANI has succeeded in curtailing the business of international telecom giants such as Adaptive Mobile, Huawei, and Nokia Siemens Networks.
