UANI Applauds U.S. Congressmen for Raising Concerns Over India's Iran Business, Calls on India to Stop Buying Oil from Iran

New York, NY - United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) President, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, issued the following statement today regarding the Wednesday letter U.S. Representative Steve Israel [D-NY] and U.S. Representative Richard Hanna [R-NY] sent to India's Ambassador to the United States:

We applaud Representatives Israel and Hanna for raising the important issue of India's unfortunate desire to increase its economic presence in Iran. As the Congressmen explained, it is of great concern that one of America's key international partners plans to send a large trade delegation to Iran in the coming days, and has passed China as the world's top buyer of Iranian crude oil.

At a time when the Iranian regime has become more dangerous and threatening than ever, most of the world has united in trying to economically pressure the regime and force a change in its behavior through sanctions and embargoes. By increasing its business in Iran, India risks negating the hard work its allies have done to sanction the regime and cut off its oil trade and capital.

We call on India to cancel its planned trade exploration trip to Iran, stop buying Iran's oil, and join the international effort to isolate the regime. We also call on other U.S. lawmakers to join Representatives Israel and Hanna in this important effort.
