UANI Statement On The Iran Nuclear Weapons Capability Monitoring Act Of 2022

(New York, N.Y.) — United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) Chairman Senator Joseph I. Lieberman and CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace released the following joint statement today upon the introduction of the Iran Nuclear Weapons Capability Monitoring Act of 2022 by Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Chair of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, and Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC). 

“This legislation continues the long tradition of bipartisan efforts in Congress to check the advancement of Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs. The bill’s requirement for the Biden administration to submit a comprehensive diplomatic strategy is essential as it reflects the need for the United States to have an Iran policy that is not solely defined by the failed JCPOA. This is a matter of bipartisan consensus. 

“This bill marks an important effort to stemming the threat Iran poses to international peace and security. Most recently, in June, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) censured the regime for its refusal to cooperate with the agency’s safeguards investigations and provide any credible explanation regarding the presence of uranium particles at three undeclared sites. And ahead of the negotiations in Qatar to revive the JCPOA, which went nowhere, Iran tested another satellite launch vehicle. In introducing this legislation, Senators Menendez and Graham are signaling that the U.S. Senate is working to counter Tehran’s malign activity.”
