U.S. Department of Justice Unsealing of Indictment of IRGC Hackers

(New York, NY) – United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace issued the following statement in response to today’s Department of Justice unsealing of a Grand Jury indictment against at least three IRGC-employed hackers targeting dozens of prominent Americans currently or formerly holding public office in multi-year efforts to advance the interests of the Iranian regime—including attempts to “hack-and-leak” and weaponize material stolen from the U.S. presidential campaign.

We commend the Department of Justice for the swift and thorough investigation and accompanying criminal charges exposing the Iranian regime’s perverse but expected meddling efforts to advance its malign causes and sway November’s election. Equally predictable is Iran’s targeting of colleagues.

While we also welcome the posting of a considerable financial reward for assistance leading to the apprehension of the three named Iranian nationals charged in the indictment, it is our contention that $5 million may be better spent on precision kinetic action striking bases of the IRGC—the organization responsible for these malign actions against Americans on U.S. soil.

For too long, the deterrence deficit with respect to the Islamic Republic and its IRGC terrorist wing has remained too wide and is unlikely to narrow absent more forceful signals from the United States.
