Description

"Ahmad Fazelian [is] Deputy Attorney General."1

Fazelian previously served as head of the Judicial Administration of Alborz Province. In that role, according to the NGO Justice for Iran, Fazelian reportedly was "responsible for the arrest and prosecution of peaceful protesters, on charges of breach of the peace and acting against national security" during the widespread protests in the winter of 2017–18. Further, also according to Justice for Iran, Fazelian previously served as head of the Judicial Administration of Golestan Province from 2006 to 2015, and in that role, he reportedly was "responsible for neglecting the grievances of 12 Baha’i citizens’ regarding the physical and mental tortures they underwent during judicial interrogations, and for failure to launch an independent and effective investigation."2

"Ahmad FAZELIAN in his current capacity as Deputy Prosecutor General for public law affairs, and in managerial roles in the judiciary over 20 years, is an involved person under the Iran (Sanctions) (Human Rights) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 because he is and has been responsible for, engaging in, providing support for and promoting serious human rights violations in Iran, in particular, the right to be free from torture and the right to a fair trial."3
