Russia's invasion of Ukraine in late February prompted many to speculate that the US would ease up on its sanctions campaign against Iran and Venezuela to try and further isolate Russia, which depends on energy exports. But no progress has been made despite meetings between US and Venezuelan officials and the continuation of talks with Iran which began last spring to revive the 2015 deal that saw US sanctions lifted in exchange for Tehran limiting its nuclear programme.
